Scottish Hillrally

The Scottish Hillrally moves into its 10th event, though for many it will be over twelve years since the first idea of a Scottish Hillrally was formed. The 10th running will take place on Friday 14th and Saturday15th of July. A week earlier than last year and announced at prize giving but given that Billing Show moved its date after our announcement, it was felt prudent to move our date to avoid the clash. Many competitors and even more marshals attend Billing and there is just no point in putting a difficult decision before our much needed and respected marshals.

Being the 10th event we plan to try and give you all, just that bit more; with a new stage, better goodies and branded clothing, a Best of Perthshire buffet or a Perthshire open fire roast.

You should consider and remember that the Scottish Hillrally is now unique in its near 100% use of open ground and not defined tracks. So good suspension and off road knowledge will pay more dividends than pure speed. Lower diff ratios and torque will gain those seconds out of the corners and yumpy bits. There are open grass land spaces and some tracks that will allow for power and speed to give you fun. This is not a forest track fire break rally, nothing wrong with those, we have one stage like that ourselves, but nothing beats pure hillside off roading.

Another year another cup...

After 12months of banter from Simon & Mike about Matt & I winning first over all in the National ‘B’ event last year we decided (after a few beers!) that the only way to settle things was for us both to enter the 2006 event. A lot of preparation went into getting our motors ready for the event with Simon replacing his suspension set up with 4 Shiny new ‘FOX’ shock absorbers and myself replacing the front axle for a late Range Rover classic one, fitting anti roll bars all round and replacing the gear box for an R380 one out of a Discovery. We gathered up a trusted service crew and headed up to Perth on Thursday 13th July. We rose early on Friday morning to get the documentation sorted out, get through Scrutineering and sit through the Drivers brief.

The race kicked off at 13:00hrs and we completed 4 special stages with just 2 services. Saturday was a long day with the racing kicking off at 8am and finishing at nearly 8pm! We were all shattered that evening but prize giving livened things up when Matt and I took away another trophy for being first in class (standard production vehicle class). Simon & Mike finished 15th over all out of 46 motors and we came in 20th over all.

Pictures to follow... Keep watching!
