The Rickshaw Run

Team Midlife-crisis

So what's all this about then? Well Mike (Mike Hemingway Vehicle Preparation Services) and 2 of his friends have taken on a small challenge in order to raise money for charity. These guy's intend on driving 2000 miles across India - Quite a challenge you may think but look further... They don’t intend on taking a luxury 4X4 with air conditioning, a powerful engine and enough luggage to fill an artic wagon, no these guy's intend on doing it in this.

That's right this auto rickshaw will not only be their transport but will also be their home for 2 weeks! These machines are probably the craziest automobile on this planet being 3-wheeled, 145cc and just 7hp they are probably the most unsuitable vehicle imaginable, after a lawnmower!

The Route

After surviving the party the night before and altitude sickness in the giddy heights of Kathmandu, Nepal , They will venture southwards through the humid jungle and foothills of the Himalayas and down into the very heart of rural India, over arid plains and other stuff you cant imagine to finish on the tropical beaches of the southernmost tip of the subcontinent.

In their own words:-

"During this trip we’ll pitting ourselves, man and machine, against absolutely everything that India can throw at us, and all going well, we’ll sucessfully conquer substandard roads, horrendous driving, numerous breakdowns, (hopefully not so numerous) crashes and avoid a host of tropical diseases to return home two weeks later, having raised stacks of money for charity."

The Charities and what you can do...

So, this is the main reason why we are here isnt it?

Each member of Team Midlifecrisis has a strong belief that there are certain things that all people should be able to count on in order just to survive. Regardless of who they are, or where they are every single person should be able to have a few basics such as water to drink, tools to be able to plant and grow food and vital medical support when needed.

These things are not a lot for anyone to ask for, yet we all know from watching news reports and reading the papers that even these very basics needs are not possible for everyone. Surely it falls to those that are more fortunate, such as you and me to give a little back to even the odds a little.

However, all the team members want to ensure that all efforts made by us and all fiancial support given by donators is used to its full potential, and no funds are wasted by charity admin, or by us by doing the event itself.

We have taken great care in checking the charities supported by the Rickshaw Run , and are proud to support both Mercy Corps and the Frank water project.

Further details can be found on their website (http://teammidlifecrisis.wordpress.com/) including an introduction to the team and addition information about the charities they will be supporting.

All the best boy's - I hope you survive!
Ted
