Winch Challenge events

Mike and Graham have been entering winch challenge events over the past 2 years. Here are some of the pictures taken during their dirty weekends away!

Image: The Team.

The Team. Grahams Ibex sits on the left! Yes that is a 4.6 HSE Range Rover on the right and yes it does compete!!!

Image: Washing the Motor

Don’t panic... A winch challenge isn’t this easy! They were just using the river to wash the motor ready for the road!!!

Image: Jungle tracks!

Looking trough the windscreen of the Ibex getting to a punch! Part of a winch challenge is to get to 'Punch's'. These are tools for marking a scorecard. The card is secured into the motor and the punches are fastened to trees etc usually found in very awkward positions like in the middle of a lake or half way up a cliff face. The challenge is to get the motor close enough to the punch to be able to stamp the card. The winners are the ones with the most punches in a given time!

This picture starts to help make sense why it's called a winch challenge! Seen here winching up a near vertical wall!!!

Another motor makes it to one of the many punch's.

Testing Land Rovers claim for the angle at which it is safe to drive a Defender!

This clean motor sits in wait for the competition to begin.

A snowy climb awaits. The picture doesn’t show just how steep this was!

Image:

It's a pleasure pain thing! Competing in severe weather conditions is hard on the motors but even harder on the Navigators!

Image:

The 'BOB' tailed P38a Range Rover makes it's way deep into the woods.

Roll Reversal...? Rather than using a tree to pull the motor out of trouble, Mike is using the motor to pull the tree out! Well thats one reason why to build a winch challenge motor!!!

Image: Defrosting Burgers

Mike tells me that on a weekends winch challenge you have to make use of all the tools you have... That includes using a hot TDI manifold for defrosting frozen Burgers!!!
